James 5:16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. How many times have you been with a friend or someone you love and you see them struggling and they have great consternation about whatever it is? They are telling you they don’t know what they are going to do. As you sit there with them you feel a nudge from the Holy Spirit to pray for them. The first thought that comes into your mind, how can I find the right words to pray for this person? The Bible is full of prayer and these are powerful prayers that God has given to us. In Ephesians 1:16-19 16do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: 17that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power. There is another prayer in Ephesians 3:14-21 14For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, 17that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love 18may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height 19to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God 20Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. These are two powerful prayers and what a blessing it is for someone to pray these two prayers over someone else. You could mark these or highlight them in your bible and just read them over someone. Pastor Lee Cruse if praying that we would understand how important it is that we do what James 5:16 has to say. That we have a friend that we can depend on and that we can be real with them, and they hold everything confidential, but that we pray for one another. Why? Because the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
